It is not very difficult to get yourself in debt. But getting yourself out of debt can take rears and years. Many young British people are thousands of pounds in debt. The big credit card companies set their plans to get customers into debt and keep them there as long as possible in order to make as much money as possible out of them. If you find yourself in this difficult position don't worry.. There is help out there to try get you out of debt misery. It can take a lot of hard work and dedication to get out of the debt mess but it can be done.

Some people turn to credit counselling companies for help getting out of debt. This is not necessarily always a good idea. One of my good friends works for a big high street bank as a loan arranger. She arranges loans for customers every day and tells me that working with a credit counselling company can sometimes financially cripple some people. These companies state that they will consolidate all of your debts into one, small fee payable monthly. From this payment all of your bills will be paid. Unfortunately some of your commitments may not get paid before the due date and you may be charged late fees. In this case, working with a credit counselling company might in fact put you deeper in debt.

Help With Debt Problems

Once you have teamed up with a credit counselling company, your credit is in a way frozen. People like my friend at the bank can have a difficult, if not almost impossible time trying to work with you on obtaining a personal loan. If you are seriously trying to get out of debt you should consider all the options available to you before signing up with any service designed to help you clear your debt.

If you are able to manage your debt, and are not trying to get out of debt at the moment but are concerned about the possibility of being in debt and want to avoid it, you should pay yourself first. This means that you should put away at least ten to fifteen percent from your take home pay into a savings account. This will provide you with a nice little cushion if unexpected bills come your way.  It also will give you the rather comfortable feeling that having a few pounds tend to give when you are short of money.

Another 'must do' when trying to stay out of debt is you really should live within your income. The ability to get your hands on several credit cards does not mean that you should. Most British people are in financial difficulties because of credit card debt. If you can avoid living off of cards you should be able to stay out of debt.
